Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall joins Netflix drama series

She will be playing a cosmetics queen.

Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall is about to get glamorous as she'll be playing a makeup mogul in the Netflix series Glamorous.

According to Variety, the series, originally ordered as a pilot at The CW in 2019 before moving to the streaming service, follows Marco Mejia (played by actor, singer and YouTube star Miss Benny), a gender non-conforming queer person who begins working for Cattrall's cosmetics queen Madolyn Addison.

In this job, Marco has a chance to figure out what he wants out of life and, importantly, what it really means to be queer.

Netflix has given the show a 10-episode order, and shooting starts in Toronto in July.

Cattrall has been on a career renaissance throughout 2021/2022, playing the older Sophie narrating Disney+ How I Met Your Father. She's also playing an affluent New Orleans grandmother in the new Peacock reboot Queer as Folk and will be seen next in the Lionsgate drama About My Father, opposite Robert De Niro.

Cattrall's groundbreaking performance as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City made her a cultural icon. However, in 2017, she retired the character after passing on the script for the third movie. This led to Michael Patrick King reimagining the franchise and creating HBO Max/Sky Atlantic's And Just Like That without Cattrall.

She told Variety: "It's a great wisdom to know when enough is enough. I also didn't want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear."

Not that having Cattrall's presence has affected the Sex and the City reboot, as it was confirmed for a second season of And Just Like That in March.

"I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters – played by these power, amazing actors," said King.

"The fact is, we're all thrilled. And Just Like That our Sex life is back."
