On My Block spoilers follow.
Netflix has just announced the cast for its upcoming On My Block spin-off Freeridge.
After the popular teen comedy-drama series came to an end earlier this week with season four, the streamer announced last month that it wasn't done with the show's universe and that work had already started on a new project set in the same neighbourhood of Freeridge.
While fans will have to say goodbye to Monse, Ruby, Jamal, Cesar and Jasmine, we are now able to introduce a new Core Four.
Taking the lead in Freeridge will be Bryana Salaz (Team Kaylie), Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Growing Fangs), Ciara Riley Wilson (LA's Finest, Kim Possible) and Shiv Pai, who can also be seen in the Marvel show Iron Fist.
"The stories of Freeridge continue, following a new crew of friends who may
or may not have unleashed a deadly curse kicking off an unforgettable adventure," reads Deadline's description of the new show.
Salaz, Mejia, Wilson and Pai already made a brief appearance in the series finale of On My Block to lead into the spin-off.
As the gang, their family and basically every character we have ever met gathers to celebrate the passing of Abuelita (Peggy Blow), the new foursome are peeping from over the fence.
"Looks familiar?" asks Ruby (Jason Genao), pointing out the new kids to Jamal (Brett Gray) as César (Diego Tinoco) replies: "It feels so long ago," and Monse (Sierra Capri) continues: "And like yesterday."
On My Block co-creators Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft will return for the spin-off, along with co-producer Jamie Uyeshiro and co-executive producer Jamie Dooner. Uyeshiro, Gonzalez and Haft will serve as showrunners.
In a statement, Lauren Iungerich said that she was "so proud to pass the baton" over to Eddie, Jeremy "and the incomparable Jamie Uyeshiro who rocked it in the writers' room from day one" (via Variety).
"Co-creating and running On My Block was and will always be a highlight of my life," she said. "There are more stories to tell of our beloved Freeridge and I cannot wait to continue to work with this talented team."
On My Block is available to stream on Netflix. Freeridge does not currently have a release date.
