Sex Education star addresses season 4 status after cast exits

Have we seen the last of Colin the science teacher?

Sex Education season 4 spoilers follow.

Sex Education star Jim Howick has addressed whether fans should expect to see Colin the science teacher in the fourth season.

The Netflix series has had some high-profile departures ahead of production resuming, including Patricia Allison, Simone Ashley, Tanya Reynolds and Howick's fellow Moordale Secondary School teacher Rakhee Thakrar.

The good news is that Howick expects to be part of upcoming filming dates, even if he doesn't have all of the details just yet.

"It's a long shoot. It's not like a normal sitcom shoot. So, the truth is, I think I'm involved but I don't know for sure. And it will definitely be in the second block, if I am," he told Radio Times.

"It’s too late for me now to be in the first block, I think. But yeah, I haven't quit. I haven't left. So if they'll have me, I'll come back."

The actor explained that it's not at all unusual for Sex Education to call in supporting cast at the last minute because of its all-star roster.

"They have to book massive stars to be in it," he pointed out. "And so, it surprises a few people how last minute a lot of it all is… I think I'm probably going to come back, I think I would have heard if I'm being cut out."

Earlier this week, Emma Mackey suggested she would have a reduced role in the fourth season because the characters have more scattered storylines.

"We're in the middle of filming now, and I'm excited to be back," she said. "And yeah, I'm intrigued to know what's going to happen – because I also don't know. I'm also finding out as we go along, so it'll be fun!"

Sex Education seasons 1-3 are available on Netflix now. Season 4 is now in production.
