His Dark Materials prequel book on sale now

Ahead of the TV series ending.

A prequel for His Dark Materials is on sale ahead of the TV series' finale.

With the fantasy show set to wrap up later this month, it's an ideal time to pick up author Philip Pullman's short story The Collectors to fill in some blanks.

Amazon UK has reduced the price of the hardcover edition of The Collectors, from £7.99 down to £5.99 for a limited time. If you act quickly, you can get the book dispatched in time for the holidays as well.

This story delves into the past of the mysterious Marisa Coulter, played by Ruth Wilson in the BAFTA TV Award-nominated fantasy drama series. This hardcover edition also features black-and-white illustrations from Tom Duxbury.

Here's the official synopsis: "In this darkly delicious tale, Pullman invites readers to meet the mysterious girl who will one day become the sinister Mrs. Coulter, one of the most inscrutable characters in the His Dark Materials series.

"On a cold winter’s night, two art collectors are settled before a fire in the senior common room of a college in Oxford, discussing two new unusual pieces—a portrait of a striking young woman and a bronze sculpture of a fearsome monkey. How could they imagine that they are about to be caught in the crossfire of a story that has traveled across time and worlds?"

His Dark Materials star Amir Wilson recently spoke about how the writers and cast wanted to do justice to the passionate fandom in the show's final season.

"When you're playing a character that's already been portrayed in some form or another, whether it's a book or a film – obviously Will's never been portrayed as a character on screen before, but he has in a book," Wilson told Digital Spy.

"And it’s always hard when doing things that have such a big fanbase, because you really want to do the fans justice, as to what they had envisioned. But you can only just turn up to set, do your best, and just hope that people like it."

His Dark Materials airs on BBC One in the UK and HBO in the US.
