His Dark Materials' Amir Wilson breaks down season 3's emotional reunion scene

"I was worried that we weren't ever going to film that scene at all."

His Dark Materials season 3 episode 6 spoilers follow.

His Dark Materials star Amir Wilson has broken down an emotional reunion scene between his character Will and his on-screen father John in season 3 of the BBC show.

Wilson plays Will Parry in the TV show based on Philip Pullman's book series, while Sherlock, Fleabag and Spectre star Andrew Scott plays Will's father, the marine explorer Colonel John Parry.

In season three, Will and John are finally reunited once again in what proves to be an emotional scene for both father and son. In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Wilson opened up about this pivotal scene in episode six of the final season.

"A fun fact: we actually only filmed that like a couple of months ago. We shot season 2 from mid-last year to December last year. We were meant to shoot that scene – Andrew [Scott] was filming on a different project," he said.

Wilson explained that the scene was originally meant to be shot in January this year, but it had to be pushed back several times due to Scott's hectic schedule.

Eventually, the scene was shot in August – and the filmmakers even brought the set down from Cardiff to London to get the scene done.

"It was great. I love working with Andrew. Those scenes that I have with him are really emotional a lot of the time – just for the first scene in season 2. This one is less more so. It's more of a nice moment, this one," Wilson said.

"I remember being on set, and him being kind of really supportive, and just there for me throughout the day. He wrote me a letter when we had finished, talking about how great he thought I was, which really meant a lot."

Wilson continued: "I was worried that we weren't ever going to film that scene at all. So I'm really happy that we managed to do it."

His Dark Materials airs on Sunday nights on BBC One in the UK, and on HBO in the US. Viewers in the UK can also stream the final season in its entirety now on BBC iPlayer.
