Top Gear presenter Paddy McGuinness has separated from his wife Christine after 11 years of marriage.

They tied the knot back in June 2011 and together have three children, 8-year-old twins Penelope and Leo, and 6-year-old Felicity.

On Friday (July 22), the couple announced their split in a joint statement shared on their respective Instagram Stories.

They wrote: "We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.

"A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children."

The famous couple made it clear they would be working to keep a strong family unit, despite no longer being together romantically.

"This was not an easy decision to make but we're moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children," they explained. "We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together.

"We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life.

"Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter. We'll be making no further comment," the joint statement concluded.

This news comes just weeks after Christine addressed speculation surrounding their marriage, with the Real Housewives of Cheshire star being open about the challenges they've faced as a couple over the years.

"We have had difficult times but when I look back at our marriage and see where we are now, I think, 'Wow, you know, we've done alright!'" she told OK! earlier this month.
