Love Island's Laura Whitmore announces she's quitting show

"There are certain elements of the show I've found very difficult."

Laura Whitmore has announced her departure from Love Island.

Whitmore confirmed on Instagram on Monday (August 22) that she has left the ITV2 series due to "certain elements of the show" planned for its winter 2023 series, including the travel schedule to film in South Africa.

"There are certain elements of the show I've found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects," she wrote.

"I wish it was still possible but know you'll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline."

As she mentioned, Laura joined the show as a replacement for the original host, her friend Caroline Flack, in 2020. Flack tragically passed away later that year.

An ITV spokesperson told Digital Spy on Monday: "Laura has been a fantastic host across the last three series of the show.

"We are so grateful for everything she has brought to the programme but understand and respect her decision, and we look forward to working with her on upcoming ITV projects."

Laura received support from several former Love Island stars, including Faye Winter writing: "[Caroline] really would be proud! You done incredibly."

The presenter is busy these days, having also recently left her long-time slot on BBC Radio 5 Live after "a brilliant four years".

New projects on the horizon include true crime series Laura Whitmore Investigates as well as a gig in the West End as part of the cast of horror play 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Whitmore joins Felix Scott, Tamsin Carroll and Matt Willis in the play from September 6 to January 8 next year, which would theoretically interfere with pre-production for Love Island's winter 2023 series.
