Love Island voiceover star Iain Stirling got a surprise during a recent interview when he was asked a puzzling question about his colleague Maya Jama.

Iain is married to former Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, who stepped down from her hosting role last year. Meanwhile, Maya made her debut as the new host of the hit ITV2 reality show earlier this week.

Chatting about the new winter series of Love Island and how Maya has settled onto the show, Iain was left baffled when, during Wednesday’s (January 18) episode of Good Morning Britain, presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing star Ed Balls began to quiz the voiceover star about his personal relationship with Maya.

"So you’ve not said to her, can you come over for a chat or I’m sending you a text or anything like that?" he asked.

"To Maya Jama?" Iain replied. "I’m sure my wife would have something to say about that if that happened."

As Love Island fans will likely already know, Iain and Laura tied the knot back in 2020 and welcomed their first child, a baby girl called Stevie Re, the following year.

Seemingly taken aback by the line of questioning, Iain made it clear he didn’t want to compare Laura’s presenting work to Maya’s.

"Maya is absolutely fantastic," he remarked. "Laura was absolutely fantastic and Maya has done such a good job. I mean, her slo-mo walks have been something else – great looks!"

The winter series kicked off on Monday (January 16) night with 10 brand new singletons entering the villa in a bid to find love.

While fans of the reality dating show deemed Maya’s first outing as host a success, the opening episode failed to match the viewing figures of the previous season premiere.

Love Island airs nightly on ITV2, and is available via catch up on ITVX and BritBox.
