Death in Paradise season 12 return date confirmed following Christmas special

It's back, and sooner than you think!

Death In Paradise will return for its 12th series sooner than we had hoped, just after the festive special.

Season 11 of the hit show aired earlier this year, and viewers watched as DS Florence Cassell (played by Joséphine Jobert) left the show.

The cast of the beloved series recently completed filming series 12, and it's set to hit screens on BBC One on January 6 at 9pm.

Don Warrington, Elizabeth Bourgine, Tahj Miles, Shantol Jackson, and Ginny Holder will all be returning for the new series.

For fans who can't wait until then, the show will return later this month for a Christmas special.

A synopsis for the upcoming festive episode reads: "A case of Selwyn's comes back to haunt him following the murder of a true crime podcaster on the hunt for a missing child. Marlon is forced to spend the night in a haunted house and Darlene takes a hard look at her life choices. And after a chance encounter in an airport car park, could love finally be in the air for Neville Parker?"

Meanwhile, a new casting announcement for the forthcoming series was recently revealed.

Joining the cast for its 12th outing will be This Is England and After Life star Jo Hartley, whose casting was announced on the show's official Twitter page.

The actress herself tweeted: "JOJO In paradise. What a ride! Loved every minute. Good people, beautiful memories. WHO DID IT? Thanks for inviting me on @deathinparadise you're the best! Fun in the sun!"

But that's not all.

The Larkins star Barney Walsh will be one of the series' guest stars next year, and Kate and Koji's actor Okorie Chukwu will be joining the cast.

Death in Paradise airs on BBC One, and spin-off Beyond Paradise is in production.
