Death in Paradise has teased a "spooky" storyline for Commissioner Selwyn in the upcoming Christmas special of the show.

For the 12th season of the show, we will see Saint Marie's crime solving team investigating "even more baffling and brainteasing cases".

At the end of the last season, Commissioner Selwyn was hit with a bombshell revelation that he now has a daughter, so we're expecting ghosts of Christmas past to come haunting.

The synopsis reads: "Christmas in Saint Marie takes a spooky turn this year when an old case of Selwyn's comes back to haunt him following the murder of a true crime podcaster on the hunt for a missing child.

"Marlon is forced to spend the night in a haunted house and Darlene takes a hard look at her life choices. And after a chance encounter in an airport car park, could love finally be in the air for Neville Parker?"

The new series will kick off with a mysterious death of a celebrity astronomer, meanwhile Darlene will go through a job change.

The synopsis continues with more details about what we can expect during the festive season: "We also meet a bunch of Preppers digging in for the apocalypse on a Saint Marie hillside, when the end comes dramatically early for one of them.
