Death in Paradise season 12 casts Holby City and Downton Abbey stars

They're joining an ever expanding cast.

Death in Paradise hasn't finished expanding its cast for its upcoming season 12, with Holby City and Downtown Abbey stars joining the series.

Announced via the show's official Twitter page today (October 26), John Michie, Gamba Cole and Cara Theobold are the latest stars jetting off to the fictional Caribbean island.

Michie is best known for this role as neurosurgeon Guy Self in Holby City, while Cole can be seen playing Ben Eastfield in The Outlaws. Theobold played Ivy Stuart in Downton Abbey.

No further details have been given about their roles just yet, but the stars are the latest to join the huge cast shake-up ahead of the new season.

The trio join an already stacked cast, with recent additions including This Is England and After Life star Jo Hartley, Kate and Koji's Okorie Chukwu and Doctor Who star Jo Martin.

Also joining the show are Derry Girls' Siobhan McSweeney, Les Dennis and Hakeem Kae-Kazim. The Larkins' star Barney Walsh will be appearing in a gust role.

Alongside season 12, spin-off series Beyond Paradise is also in the works. Starring Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman, the spin-off will follow his character and on-screen partner Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) as they navigate life in rural Britain.

EastEnders star Zahra Ahmadi, Derry Girls' Dylan Llewellyn, and Bridget Jones's Diary actress Felicity Montagu will also be joining the new show.

Meanwhile, Ben Miller, who starred as DI Richard Poole in seasons 1 to 3, recently hinted that he would love to return to the show.

Although DI Poole was ultimately killed off in the third season, Miller briefly returned in season 10 and is more than willing to reprise the role once more should the opportunity arise. "Of course I would. It was wonderful to come back. I did come back as my character in season 10 earlier this year," he told Radio Times.

"I came back as a ghost, so I guess anything is possible."

Death in Paradise airs on BBC One, and the spin-off Beyond Paradise is in production.
