Death in Paradise season 12 adds This Is England star to cast

The cast is getting even bigger.

Death in Paradise season 12 has added even more names to its already bumper-packed cast.

The BBC One drama, which is set in the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie, will mostly likely be back on our screens in January – and they may need a bigger island.

Joining the cast for its 12th outing will be This Is England and After Life star Jo Hartley, whose casting was announced on the show's official Twitter page.

The actress herself tweeted: "JOJO In paradise. What a ride! Loved every minute. Good people, beautiful memories. WHO DID IT? Thanks for inviting me on @deathinparadise you’re the best! Fun in the sun!"

The show also announced that The Larkins' Barney Walsh will be one of the series' guest stars and that Kate and Koji's Okorie Chukwu will be joining the cast.

Last week, it was announced that Game of Thrones, Sanditon and Nighty Night star Kevin Eldon is joining the series 12 cast, as well as Amit Shah and Chelsea Edge.

They join a list of already announced actors for series 12, including Doctor Who and Holby City star Jo Martin, Derry Girls' Sister Michael herself, Siobhan McSweeney, and Les Dennis.

Meanwhile, Derry Girls alumni Dylan Williams has joined the cast of Death in Paradise spin-off Beyond Paradise, alongside former EastEnders star Zahra Ahmadi, and another Nighty Night star, Felicity Montagu.

Williams will be playing PC Kelby Hartford, while Ahmadi takes the role of DS Esther Williams and Montagu will portray office support civilian Margo Martins.

Kris Marshall is making the move from the main series to the spin-off, and he recently spoke about the differences between the two shows.

"It's carrying on from where we left Humphrey Goodman and Martha, with their new bucolic south-western lifestyle," Marshall said. "The classic Death in Paradise way of wrapping up the show is spun on its head a bit – not every episode is a murder – so more sheep rustling and stuff like that!

"It puts an English Riviera spin on the show people know and love. Who needs the Caribbean?"

Death in Paradise airs on BBC One, and spin-off Beyond Paradise is in production.
