Law & Order crossover drops first look as air date confirmed

With a dramatic new trailer.

Law & Order's huge crossover has treated us to a first look and confirmed an official air date as we prepare to see the casts of the newly reprised Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime all meet on screen for the first time.

We first learned about the franchise's biggest crossover ever back in July, and now we know much more about what we can expect on the big air date of September 22 on NBC before it streams on Peacock the following day.

The much anticipated episode will be titled 'Gimme Shelter' and will last a whopping three hours (including adverts) when it airs. According to Entertainment Weekly, it all begins when a young girl is shot, causing Detective Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) to join forces with Detective Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks). But that's not enough manpower to solve this crime. Also in on the investigation? Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni).

That all leads to franchise vet Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) teaming up with Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) as they work together in an attempt to bust an international crime ring that seems to be related to the case. See, we told you this crossover was big!

To coincide with the plot details and release date reveal, NBC also dropped a teaser trailer for the TV event. In it, Hargitay's character can be seen requesting that all the forces "combine" to tackle the criminals as we learn this could be one of the biggest cases any of them have ever faced.

"If what you're saying is true, this is beyond comprehension," we then hear McCoy say in the clip, which you can see for yourself above.

Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Programming at NBCU Television and Streaming, said in a statement: "This unprecedented scheduling block is a tribute to all the Law & Order fans who've been watching this iconic brand for four decades on NBC. We couldn't be more excited to open our season with such a historic event." And neither can we!

Law & Order and Law & Order: Organized Crime air on NBC. Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays on NBC in the US and Sky Witness in the UK, with select episodes available on NOW.
