Strictly Come Dancing's Tyler West hits back at "unnecessary" judge comment

The judge criticised the DJ's hip movements in Saturday's show.

Strictly Come Dancing spoilers follow.

Tyler West has reacted to his exit from Strictly Come Dancing, saying he wasn’t sure how “necessary” Craig Revel Horwood’s comments were.

The judge threw some shade at Tyler when remarking on Will Mellor’s Samba on Saturday night, saying the Coronation Street actor could “teach Tyler a thing or two” about hip rotations.

Appearing on It Takes Two opposite host Rylan Clark following his elimination from this year’s series, the Kiss FM DJ, who was partnered with Dianne Buswell, praised the entire judging panel despite deeming Craig’s comments as harsh.

“I don’t know how necessary that comment was,” he said. “But I’m so grateful to be able to dance in front of them and take their comments each week; they’re all amazing in their own right. [Negative comments] are part of it, you take it onboard and you grow with it.”

Tyler, who was defeated in the dance-off by Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, reflected further on Saturday night’s live show, which took place at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.

“[Blackpool] was everything and more,” he said. “Dancing on that floor, I can’t describe the feeling. I loved every second of it, it was surreal.

“Seeing the reaction from everybody at home is just amazing, they were grooving in their living rooms. Putting smiles on people’s faces is what we wanted to do.”

Following a montage of their stint on the show, Dianne paid tribute to the DJ, saying he was “everything you want in a partner and more” before describing him as a “massive talent” and “absolute legend.”

Tyler also thanked his partner, praising the professional for her “creativity” and “patience”, saying she “brought the best out of him.”

Saturday night’s show, the first to take place at Blackpool in three years, saw Fleur East gain the first maximum score of the series, with the singer being awarded 40 points for her Couple’s Choice routine with Vito Coppola.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows also stream on BBC iPlayer.
