Channel 4 has commissioned a new mystery thriller series from writer and actress Genevieve Barr and Sex Education’s award-winning production company, Eleven.
Across eight gripping episodes, I.D. will follow the story of Emily, a young deaf woman who witnesses a neighbour taking photos of her.
That inspires her to explore what she might have done to get the attention she never wanted, with the plot summery revealing she starts "simultaneously beginning a dance with a stranger that is as exhilarating as it is dangerous". Intriguing!
The upcoming drama series is described as "a love letter to being deaf" as the intense story sees Emily forced to tackle her past head-on.

"I.D. is a journey into who we are and how people view us," Barr said in a statement, sharing her enthusiasm for the new production. "Eleven gave it a home when I was starting out and I'm delighted we've found it a broadcaster with Channel 4 who are pathfinders in fearless and inclusive storytelling.
"It is a privilege to be living and breathing this deaf-led series with this team."
Barr, who was born deaf, previously gained recognition for her performance in 2010 drama The Silence. The series followed the journey of a deaf teenager who witnesses the murder of a police officer.

Channel 4’s Head of Drama, Caroline Hollick, also expressed her excitement for the new eight-part thriller.
"I.D. is both a universal story of self-discovery, and the tale of a young woman's relationship with her deafness, wrapped up in a delightfully more-ish mystery," she commented. "It will be such a privilege to have Genevieve’s unique and compelling vision on our channel."
I.D. is set to be Executive Produced by Carissa Hope Lynch, Joel Wilson and award-winning writer Jack Thorne.
