Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page has discussed the show’s future following the most recent Christmas special.
The 2019 festive special ended on a cliffhanger as Nessa (Ruth Jones) proposed to Smithy (James Corden), with the broadcast becoming the most-viewed non-sporting event in over a decade.
Page, who has played Stacey since the sitcom’s premiere in 2007, appeared on Loose Women on Wednesday, updating fans of the show with some news.

“I’m just the same as everybody else, because they don’t tell us!" she said. "They’ve never told us anymore that they’re doing anything, so it’s only when you get a phone call and they say, ‘There’s a special, do you want to do it?’
“I’m just not that sort of person. I’ve always just thought ‘we'll wait and see and if there is, there is and if there isn’t, there isn’t,’” she continued.
Despite saying that she would “love” to reprise her role, Page added: “As time’s going by, I’ve started to think, ‘Well maybe it’s been too long? Maybe there isn’t going to be another one.

“That makes me sad, because I’d love to do another one. If they do, I hope they hurry up because we’re all getting old,” she concluded.
The 2019 special was the first new content from the show since the conclusion of the third series in 2010, leading many fans to speculate whether further episodes were in the pipeline.
Earlier this year, co-creator and co-writer Corden dampened viewers’ hopes by revealing the decision wasn’t “solely” his, but did offer some encouragement following his departure from The Late Late Show.
“I wish I could say it's up to me,” he said. “The best thing about Gavin & Stacey is that it's Ruth and I; if I'm being completely honest, her judgement is exceptional. I’m going to have a bit more free time as of next year and that will open some time for us to just be together.”
