Gentleman Jack series two spoilers follow.
Series two of Gentleman Jack finished off on a lovely note with Anne Lister and her wife Ann Walker reconciling despite their differences and reuniting following a brief but painful breakup.
Yes, love may coast through the air of Shibden Halls but we know there's still plenty left of Lister's story left untold. It is based off a five-million-word diary, after all. The question is, will the formidable Anne Lister and her clan be back to tell them on screen?
Here's everything you need to know about Gentleman Jack series three.
Gentleman Jack series 3 potential release date: When's it on?
Unfortunately there is still no official word just yet on whether or not Gentleman Jack will be returning for a third series. We do know that there is plenty of scope for more though.
Creator Sally Wainwright states: "I did make stuff up in the first series. Half the time in the second series I found there wasn't enough room to make things up because the diary is so Anne-centric.
"The stuff I made up in series one was the story with the Sowdens and that's slightly disappeared in series two just to make more space for [accuracy]. I really respect the journals. I think the truth is always more interesting than something I can make up but it's just injecting it with life. It wasn't hard because the journals are so full of life."
Gentleman Jack series 3 cast: Who will be coming back?
It wouldn't be Gentleman Jack without Halifax's Anne Lister and her love Ann Walker so the odds are Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle will be reprising their respective roles.
It's unlikely we've seen the last of Lydia Leonard's Mrs Mariana Lawton, the third wheel in their marriage. We expect Mrs Lawton will continue to tempt Lister with reminders of a passionate past.
Beyond that, the following main cast members will also likely be present in series three:
• Gemma Whelan as Marian Lister
• Timothy West as Jeremy Lister
• Gemma Jones as Aunt Anne Lister
• Peter Davison as William Priestley
• Amelia Bullmore as Eliza Priestley
• Vincent Franklin as Christopher Rawson
• Shaun Dooley as Jeremiah Rawson
It's entirely possible that we will see less, if anything, of Derek Riddell as the underhanded Captain George Sutherland and Katherine Kelly as his wife Elizabeth.
Following the division of the estate, Ann asks Elizabeth when they will see each other again, to which she responds with uncertainty. This could be indicative of their involvement in future series now that the matter of the land has been dealt with.
Gentleman Jack series 3 plot: What will happen?
We know from the true story of Anne Lister's life that she passed away in 1840, only six years after the couple eloped, which means we're still a few seasons from that heartbreak (thank goodness).
Should the show follow the trajectory of Lister's life we know that the pair will remain together until death doth them part. As for the nitty-gritty, the trials and tribulations that make up any marriage, series three will have to deal with the chaotic state left in series two.
Of Lister's journey throughout series two, Suranne Jones told Digital Spy: "She's getting the business, she's spending her money. It's like supercharged, you know.
"She's fighting the tribe. She's protecting her assets. She's fighting for what she wants for their wills and the division of the estate. She's not just on fire, she's dangerous because there's so much going on with her that she is on the cusp of losing control almost at any point because she's so excited with her life."
We know that her extravagant spending has been a point of contention not just with Ann but with the Lister clan too. She has sunk a lot of money into the building of the hotel but will she be able to make a decent return?
There is also the question of Mariana Lawton, who keeps popping up like an ulcer in their relationship.
Lister's indiscretion with Mrs Lawton seems to have given Mariana reason to cling on to their faded romance. Whether their one-time-tryst will turn into a full blown affair is still up in the air. One thing's for sure, even the slightest interest from Lister and Mariana will throw all caution to the wind, so let's hope Anne knows what she's doing.
As for the rest of the Listers, when last we left Marian she had plans to move to Market Wheaton to escape the pain of her failed romance. Their father was due to move with her but hopefully they'll have a change of heart.
Gentleman Jack series 3 trailer: When can I watch it?
We wouldn't bank on a trailer anytime soon given that series two has not long ended but check back in for updates.
Gentleman Jack is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
