Girls Aloud are honouring their bandmate Sarah Harding by organising a charity fundraiser at London's Hyde Park.

Harding tragically passed away at the age of just 39 last year, following a battle with breast cancer.

Almost a decade since the Brit Award-winning pop band went their separate ways, Cheryl announced via Instagram Stories this week that herself, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh are doing a five-mile run in collaboration with Cancer Research UK on Saturday, July 24.

The former X Factor judge informed her 3.5 million followers: "Around this time last year when Sarah was really sick we were all desperately trying to find ways to help her, comfort her.

"You feel so helpless in times like that and one of the only things she really wanted was a gala dinner. While that's underway we felt like we could be doing more and we decided to do a Race for Life for Sarah at Hyde Park on the 24th of July and I know so many of you wanted to support her.

"You were helping her all the way through her illness and we'd really love it if you could join us there. Come, walk with us for 5 miles, people are doing it virtually too. We hope to see you there."

Back in December, Walsh reflected on the grieving process, telling Psychologies magazine: "I can't lie, it absolutely knocked us all for six and the grieving is a daily challenge.

"Until you're actually experiencing something like this with somebody who was close to you, it's impossible to imagine what it's going to feel like. And I honestly still can't work out how you ever truly accept it.

"I deal with it day to day and, for me, that's about checking in with everyone, especially Sarah's mum, and making sure that they're OK too. It's going to take time, and it's very, very tough."
