Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies has sent franchise fans into a frenzy thanks to his cryptic message about Susan Foreman, the granddaughter of William Hartnell's Doctor.
Earlier this week, the official Doctor Who Instagram shared a black-and-white clip from Hartnell's days as the First Doctor. The snippet featured the "first big goodbye", as described in the post's caption, between the Time Lord and his companion Susan, played by Carole Ann Ford between 1963 and 1964.
Sneakily commenting on the post, returning Who showrunner Davies wrote: "Whatever happened to her?"
Naturally, social media users jumped on his words.
"Russell..... what are you implying there" and "WHAT ARE YOU SAYING RUSSELL" two users questioned, before another sarcastically added: "Yeah, too bad there's not a milestone coming up which would be the perfect opportunity to find out", referring to the impending 60th anniversary of Doctor Who.
"Russell, you must. You must make it so," pleaded a fourth Whovian. "She needs to meet grandfather again aka the 15th Doctor. Though I wish it had been the 13th. But I'd be happy with Ncuti [Gatwa's] Doctor."

Other excited fans wrote: "Please god let this be a delicious tease...", "Don't tease us like this. Would love for Susan to come back!! *hint hint*" and "bring her back please."
Whether or not Susan Foreman will ever reappear on our screens is unknown, but it would be one hell of a way to get Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor into the swing of things.
Doctor Who returns later this year on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
