Doctor Who reveals new logo for 60th anniversary

It marks a special twist on the latest emblem.

The classic Doctor Who logo has been given a special anniversary makeover.

The brand new logo has been unveiled to mark the legendary show’s 60th anniversary, with the diamond-inspired design revealed on Twitter to celebrate Doctor Who Day.

It's a day that's marked by fans every year on November 23 to commemorate the first episode of the sci-fi series airing on the broadcaster in 1963.

"This #DoctorWhoDay we’re celebrating the past, the present and the future," a tweet from the show's official Twitter account read.

The anniversary logo marks a twist on the show's latest logo, which was first unveiled to viewers last month. A similar emblem was last seen back in the 1970s when Tom Baker was playing the Doctor.

Meanwhile, David Tennant recently made a comeback to the cult series, and, speaking to BBC News, the Hollywood star shared how his reappearance came to fruition — And It turns out fans have the COVID-19 lockdown to thank for the surprise.

The actor shared that he, alongside Catherine Tate and Russell T Davies, had taken part in an online Doctor Who watchalong, called Doctor Who: Lockdown.

"That's where this all started," he shared. "At a certain time and day everyone would press play on a certain episode and some of the people who had been involved in those episodes were tweeting along.

"Me and Catherine would text, 'Wouldn't it be fun to do it again?' And Russell would say, 'We could do a one-off, maybe they'd let us'," he added.

Also in the Who universe recently, we learned that Millie Gibson will be new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa's companion, while fans will get to experience Big Finish's eight-part adventure Doctor Who: Once and Future, across seven months starting in May next year.

It will reunite Doctor Who icons including Tennant, Tom Baker, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Christopher Eccleston, Peter Davison and Paul McGann.

Doctor Who returns in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
