Doctor Who has a new home outside of the UK

Doctor Who will officially stream on Disney+ in territories outside the UK, it has been announced.

Newcomer Ncuti Gatwa made the announcement as part of a video that was uploaded to Twitter earlier this week (below), confirming the new international broadcaster for the BBC series.

"Hello! I'm Ncuti Gatwa and I am the next Doctor in the next season of Doctor Who, and to celebrate the news that we'll be landing on the BBC and Disney+, I'm here to answer some questions..." he told fans.

Outgoing Time Lord, Jodie Whittaker, has been publicly supportive of her successor for months now, with her latest comments to Digital Spy and other press reading: "This family grows and it'll be bigger than us and it'll go on and Ncuti will be extraordinary and he will bring an audience that we haven't reached.

"His performance will be so magical that now we get to sit back and enjoy it as the fans we can be now and knowing that whatever is to come, we were once a part of that.

"And you don't know that when you're about to step into something like this, all you feel is the narcissistic self-pressure. But now you can be out of it and go, 'right, we're in the family and they can't kick us out'."

As for who Gatwa's Doctor could be locking his alien horns with, the actor would like to see Sex Education colleague Gillian Anderson on the scene next season.

"I would love for her to come in and be an amazing baddie. That would be a dream."

David Tennant is set to play the next incarnation of the Doctor after Whittaker's version unexpectedly regenerated into him in her final episode last weekend. He will appear in the show's 60th anniversary specials, before turning in Gatwa's version.

Doctor Who returns in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
