Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker reacts to Doctor reunion scene

"Such an emotional day."

Doctor Who's 'The Power of the Doctor' spoilers follow.

Jodie Whittaker has opened up about filming an emotional reunion scene in her final episode of Doctor Who.

The Broadchurch star bowed out as Thirteen in episode 'The Power of the Doctor', marking the final moments of Chris Chibnall as showrunner of the series.

In the special, there's a scene where former Doctor companions have a reunion in the form of a group therapy session. The moment saw the return of Bradley Walsh as Graham O'Brien, as well as that of classic companions, Melanie (Bonnie Langford), Tegan (Janet Fielding) and Ace (Sophie Aldred).

"There's a scene in the Tardis, everyone's in there… the dancing around of that space, when you shoot on the Tardis it's quite a difficult space to shoot on, but when you use the full space and you're allowed the movement around it, it's so much fun," Whittaker told Digital Spy and other press.

"The scene for me when I get to meet other iterations was such an emotional day, such a wonderful day," she continued, adding: "To be on set with people who’ve paved the way for us to be is a really emotional thing."

Whittaker first took on the role of the Doctor – the first woman to play the character – in 2018. The new episode saw a shocking regeneration scene, in which a former Time Lord incarnation (played by David Tennant) returned in the role, leaving fans with many unanswered questions.

The Doctor will next be played by Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa, with returning showrunner Russell T Davies helming the series for the first time in 13 years.

Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK. In the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams exclusively on BritBox in the UK.
