Tehran fans have some good news as Apple TV+ as the show has been renewed for a third season on the streaming service. And that's not all, House star Hugh Laurie has joined the cast for the third season.

Announcing the renewal and Laurie's addition, Morgan Wandell, the head of international programming at Apple TV+ said in a statement (via Variety): “Tehran is a nonstop thrill ride that has hooked fans around the globe. Like viewers everywhere, we can't wait for another heart-pounding season from Dana, Shula, Danny, Tony and the rest of the creative team.

"We are so excited to have the brilliant Hugh Laurie join Niv and the incredibly talented cast in a new storyline that has all the makings of an unforgettable season," he added.

Details of Laurie's character have not yet been revealed.

Tehran follows Tamar (Niv Sultan), a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity. The premise of the third season will see Tamar try to find a way to reinvent herself and win back the Mossad's support if she is to survive after she went rogue at the end of season 2 and lost all of her closest allies.

Fellow cast members Shaun Toub and Shila Ommi will return to play Faraz and Nahid, respectively, while Sasson Gabai, Bahar Pars and Phoenix Raei are new additions to the series alongside Laurie.

Previously, the show's co-creators Moshe Zonder and Dana Eden talked with Digital Spy about the biggest challenges of making the show.

"The biggest challenge was to write the Iranian characters, for example the character of Faraz Kamali... and also the character of Milad (Kahani)," Zonder said. "Because we wanted to dive under their skin and represent them and, you know, also not to be too afraid to take different decisions for them."

"I think that nobody knows a lot about Iran, and I think that's one of the things we really wanted to do in this show – to give an authentic glimpse into current Iran," Eden added. "But not the Iran you see in the news. But the young people of Iran, the spirit of the young people, the culture, the music, the good vibes that you have in Iran."

The first two seasons of Tehran are available to stream on Apple TV+.
