DC's Stargirl shot two different endings for the third season finale in case it was renewed for a fourth season according to star Brec Bassinger.
Stargirl, which was created by Geoff Johns, ended up being cancelled after season three. So Johns opted to use the ending that wrapped things up for viewers so that he didn't "leave the dance with all these question marks", Bassinger said in an interview with TV Line.
But Bassinger, who played the title character, said that the unused alternative ending, which would have set up a fourth season, was "insane".

"It will make people sad because the fourth-season idea was insane. Like, it would have been epic. And I actually believe that’s why it took so long for us to officially get the cancellation news because Geoff came in with such a wonderful idea. But it wasn’t meant to be," Bassinger said.
Stargirl became the last show standing in the Arrowverse earlier this year after all other shows came to an end or were given cancellation notice.
In September, Bassinger said: "I know people on these shows, so of course I'm sad and emotional for all of them. I've seen how much work it takes to make these shows, but I'm just so grateful for what we've gotten to do."

The Arrowverse is the shared-universe of DC TV shows, which began with 2012's premiere of Arrow. Arrow ended in 2020 and The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning and Batwoman, along with Stargirl, have all been cancelled.
Stargirl's season three finale will air on December 7. The ninth and final season of The Flash will air next year.
Stargirl: Frenemies began on August 31, airing on The CW in the US. The first two seasons can be viewed on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
