The actor shared this huge news on social media on Wednesday, revealing he'd wanted to be "Superman when I grow up" since he was 4 years old.
It was announced in August that his predecessor Jordan Elsass would be leaving the role he'd originated on Superman & Lois due to "personal reasons".
A Warner Bros spokesperson said: "Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for season 3 due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast."
The actor later shared a message with fans acknowledging it had been "a tough few weeks" getting to grips with leaving the series.
He explained in a Cameo message: "I know that I was pumped for season 3, for sure, but what are you going to do? Anyway, mental health is definitely 100% priority. It's pinnacle. It's got to take precedence. And mine has been… the last couple of years… it's been rough.
"I need some time to myself. I'm still debating whether I'm even going to act for a while. I may go in a different direction. I know that's definitely going to be disappointing to some people."
Superman & Lois season 3 will air on The CW in the US in early 2023. The BBC airs the series in the UK.
