The Flash star's next TV show has future revealed

Luckily, it's a rational decision.

The Flash star Jesse L. Martin has had the future of his next series revealed, and it's good news.

According to Deadline, the pilot for the drama titled The Irrational that stars Martin has been given a series order by NBC.

The series written by Arika Lisanne Mittman is based on the bestselling 2008 novel Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely.

The show will tell the story of Alec Baker (Martin), a famous behavioural science professor who uses his individual approach to human behaviour to advise on a number of high-stakes cases involving law enforcement, governments and businesses.

Things take a dramatic turn for Baker when he meets his match in the form of a female domestic terror suspect.

Martin will serve as producer on the pilot, which Mittman will executive produce alongside Samuel Baum and Mark Goffman, while David Frankel will direct the series.

Earlier this year, The Flash announced that Martin would be taking on a reduced role in the series after signing on for the pilot.

Martin has played detective Joe West in the CW show since its inception in 2014, but stepped down as a regular.

Ahead of The Flash's renewal for its ninth and final season, showrunner Eric Wallace said that he wrote season 8 with the possibility that it could be the last series ever.

"But the actual ending-ending," Wallace said. "I have to write two endings, because I don't know what the future holds. I know what I'm hoping for. I'm very hopeful there is a season 9, but I have to make sure I have closure on all of the character arcs depending on which way it goes."

The Flash airs on The CW in the US. Sky Showcase and NOW air the show in the UK.
