DC's Legends of Tomorrow has been cancelled by The CW.
The time-travelling superhero show wrapped up its seventh season in March, with a cliffhanger ending designed to set up season 8.
That's why it's such a surprise that the show has come to an end, and from the looks of it there isn't going to be a TV movie or special to wrap things up.

Showrunner Kento Shimizu has responded to the news on Twitter, writing: "Well, folks. It's been an incredible run. However, the CW has let us know that there will be no season 8 of Legends of Tomorrow. We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew, and writers have contributed to the little show that could.
"Thank you to our fans; your love and passion for our strange band of misfits has made every break, every script, every daily, every cut, and every mix worth all the hard work. We see you, we love you, and you'll always have a place on the Waverider."
Although the show has ended on a cliffhanger, its status as part of the Arrowverse shared continuity and focus on travelling across time and space does mean that the characters could cross over with, for example, The Flash again and reveal how they got out of the sticky situation season 7 ended on.
It's not the same as a special episode to wrap things up, but it's something.

The Legends of Tomorrow writers room team also shared a heartfelt message, saying that it "has been the journey of a lifetime for all of us".
"The little show that wasn't supposed to be, grew into the show that could be anything it wanted... We will desperately miss creating this show, but most of all we will miss getting to make it together and sharing it with you."
Sara Lance star Caity Lotz took to her Instagram Stories to share an emotional thank you message to fans too: "I am bummed. And I'm sad. I'm going to miss it so much. I'm going to miss our amazing cast and crew, but at the same time I recognise how lucky I have been to be able to play Sara Lance for this long. Working on Legends has been amazing and it's been such a journey and I am so endlessly grateful to it and to you guys. So, thank you to all the Legends of Tomorrow fans out there. We love you guys so much and it has been a blast."
Meanwhile, Tala Ashe, who plays the history-making Zari said that she is "gutted" but will "treasure" the experience.
"For a moment in time, I got to play a superhero (the first Muslim-American live-action one at that!). So many time periods, costumes, stories and laughs. God so many laughs. This show changed my life and I will treasure the relationships I made for the rest of my life. Gutted to not have a proper goodbye with the Legends family, but grateful for the time we had together. Good reminder that we're not promised anything.
"Forever grateful to Phil Klemmer and @marcguggenheim for hiring me, to @gberlanti and Mark Pedowitz for always supporting our unicorn of a show, our genius writers and THE FINEST CREW IN THE BIZ , and to everyone who supported us, who "got" our show and our incredible fans – the best of the best. Be kind, love hard."
This is not the only Arrowverse show that The CW has cancelled recently, as Batwoman has also been axed after the recent conclusion of season 3.
Legends of Tomorrow aired on The CW in the US, and on Sky Max and NOW in the UK.
