WWE’s Ricochet: "You've got to be a little crazy" to enjoy matches with Gunther

"I like the physicality and the brutalness."

Ricochet is known as one of the most athletic, high-flying wrestlers in WWE, dazzling fans with his gravity-defying move-set. But recently on SmackDown, Ricochet has come up against some much larger opponents including Gunther and Braun Strowman.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Ricochet discussed what it's like to be put in 'David and Goliath-style' matches, against some of the biggest members of the WWE roster.

"I do enjoy those matches, with Gunther, with Sheamus, Bobby Lashley, the more physical altercations," he said. "I don't know what I enjoy more, that or like a Santos [Escobar], or Humberto, or someone like that, because they're both so different and I like aspects of both of them.

"I like the physicality and the brutalness of the Sheamuses and the Gunthers, but I do like the speed and the technique and the skill of the other matches. So it's hard to pick which one you like more because, as an artist, you just want to create. So any time you can get an opportunity to create something, I think it's wonderful."

"But I definitely do enjoy them. When you're out there, there's something about it," he added. "You've got to be a little crazy to like it, but when you're out there and the adrenaline's going, two guys, we're just battling. There's something about it, you've got to be a little crazy."

In the past few months, Ricochet has both faced Braun Strowman in the ring and teamed with him. The two may seem like a very mismatched pair, not just because of their size and style but because of Strowman's past comments about what he called "flippy-flipper", high-flying wrestlers.

Speaking about working with Braun, Ricochet said: "Braun's been great, I've known him ever since I've been in the WWE and he's always been great.

"I think if he and I can start to get a little closer and become a little more together, maybe as a tag team, we might be pretty dangerous."

Braun's previous comments about smaller wrestlers have caused debates about modern, high-flying wrestlers versus the bigger, more traditional, monster-type guys – but according to Ricochet, it isn't something that wrestlers themselves talk about.

"I think that the internet talks more about it than the wrestlers do," he said. "I think the internet cares more about it than the wrestlers do.

"For the most part, everybody backstage, they just want to make something together. They want to make a work of art for you guys. I don't think anyone really cares about the styles of anyone else. So, if you're really hearing it, it's usually from more of the internet speakers than it actually is the locker room."
