The Great British Bake Off returned for Custard Week tonight (October 25), airing a brand new twist in the Technical challenge, and sadly, we had to say goodbye to one more baker.

Saying goodbye to the tent tonight was Kevin, leaving just five bakers remaining in the competition.

Starting off with the Signature challenge, bakers were tasked with creating eight identical floating islands which consisted of poached meringue floating on crème anglaise.

"I heard about floaters a lot, but not floating islands," Syabira quipped before starting her typically experimental mojito-flavoured islands.

Syabira impressed judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood with the mojito islands, as did Janusz with his vanilla lattes, while Sandro failed to dazzle with his boozey islands.

Shocking the bakers with a Bake Off first, presenters Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding announced that the Technical challenge would have a staggered start and finish time.

Starting the challenge on his own in the tent, Sandro was tasked with creating six pistachio and praline ice cream cones. He was later joined by Janusz, followed by Syabira, then came Maxy, then Kevin and lastly Abdul.

Due to the frozen nature of the challenge, and to stop the ice cream from melting as Prue and Paul went along the judging table, the ice creams were individually taken to judges as the staggered finish times ended.

For this week's Showstopper challenge, bakers had to create an impressive set custard gateau, and Syabira wowed judges with her flavours, taking home Star Baker for the second week running, while Kevin was sent home.

"I'm nothing but proud," said an emotional Kevin after his elimination.

"I'm very sad to see Kevin go," said Prue. "I think he's invented something wonderful," she added of Kevin's custard.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix. Bake Off: An Extra Slice, hosted by Tom Allen and Jo Brand, airs on Fridays at 8pm on Channel 4.
