RuPaul's Drag Race reveals big change for new season

Start your engines!

Season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race premieres tonight (January 6) on its new home of MTV with a "supersized" two-episode double-bill.

But along with moving house, the show is also undergoing another big change as it returns to airing 60-minute episodes following the two-episode premiere.

Starting with season 10, Drag Race episodes became 90 minutes long but now MTV has decided to shorten the runtime due to the network's new show The Real Friends of WeHo.

According to Deadline, MTV decided to shortened Drag Race episodes in an attempt to build a destination night by using the franchise to launch The Real Friends of WeHo.

The Real Friends of WeHo is an “unfiltered and honest look at a select group of friends living, loving, and pursuing their passions in the West Hollywood community”.

Season 1 will follow the lives of celebrity stylist Brad Goreski, former Drag Race judge Todrick Hall, actor Curtis Hamilton, Buttah Skin CEO Dorión Renaud, TV host and business owner Jaymes Vaughan, and digital entrepreneur Joey Zauzig.

While season 15 of Drag Race will have shorter episodes, it will feature the franchise's biggest cash prize yet – with $200,000 up for grabs for 'America's next Drag Superstar'.

Ali Wong, Amandla Stenberg, Harvey Guillén, Hayley Kiyoko, Julia Garner, Janelle Monáe, Maren Morris, Megan Stalter and Orville Peck will also have guest spots on the judging panel throughout the series.

And if that's not enough – one contestant has promised the new season will have Game of Thrones level twists.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, contestant Robin Fierce teased: "It's the Game of Thrones of Drag Race seasons. In the way of, like, your faves might [go] before you expect it."

RuPaul's Drag Race US airs on MTV in the US and WOW Presents Plus in the UK.
