RuPaul has admitted that Drag Race legend Shangela deserved to be crowned champion in the past.

Shangela became the first contestant to be eliminated in the second season, but she returned the following year by placing fifth.

She was given another chance to take the crown in 2017 after being selected for the third season of All Stars, but she finished in joint third/fourth place as Trixie Mattel prevailed.

Fans have since argued that Shangela was more deserving of the victory, given she won the most challenges throughout the season, and RuPaul now agrees with this notion.

The presenter and judge appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and posed with a hypothetical situation, with Andy asking which non-winner RuPaul would now crown.

RuPaul simply replied "Shangela", before adding: "She's amazing. I actually put her on the show three times, I think, something like that. She's a fabulous queen."

Shangela competed on the most recent season of Dancing with the Stars, with her partnership with Gleb Savchenko being the first same-sex couple in the show's history; they subsequently reached the final, finishing in fourth place.

Speaking about the upcoming episodes, RuPaul said: "When I hear season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race, I have to pinch myself – I just won't tell you where.

"We never take for granted the opportunity we've been given to showcase drag excellence and tell authentic queer stories. Thank you to the fans, World of Wonder, VH1, our cast and crew, and most of all, our brave and beautiful queens."
