Fast 10 release date, trailer, cast and everything you need to know about Fast X

Dom's familia are speeding back into cinemas.

Fast X – aka Fast & Furious 10, aka Fast 10 – is racing into cinemas this summer, and we've finally had our first trailer for the new movie.

The trailer was released on February 10, revealing a surprise connection to Fast Five, first looks at Brie Larson, Jason Momoa, Daniel Melchior and Alan Ritchson's new characters and, of course, massive car-on-car-and-other-vehicles action.

The movie marks the beginning of the end for The Fast Saga as it's been confirmed that the series will wrap up with an epic two-part finale, with the tenth movie reportedly costing a whopping $340 million to make.

That's a lot of money, but the series has made more than $6.5 billion at the box office to date, so don't bet against Dom and co pulling in a profit this time around – especially since we're coming to the end.

Die-hard fans of the action series might have a hard time saying goodbye to their favourite franchise, even if it's with a two-part finale. But as Diesel himself said: "Every story deserves its own ending."

What will that ending be? We'll have to wait and see. For now, here's everything you need to know about Fast X.

Fast 10 release date: When can we expect Fast X?

Initially, Universal confirmed that Fast X would debut on April 7, 2023 (barring any delays, of course). However, that has been shifted slightly to May 19, 2023 which is where the movie has stayed.

On April 20, 2022 it was confirmed that filming had begun, with Diesel providing regular updates on Instagram. Filming wrapped in late August 2022 after the movie had shot in the likes of Italy and Portugal.

Tyrese Gibson had previously noted that the plan was to shoot the two movies back-to-back, but that hasn't happened which could mean we're in for an extended wait for the 11th and final Fast & Furious movie.

As for why the series is getting a two-part finale, Diesel has said that it's apparently because "there's so much ground to cover", adding: "There's so many places and so many locations in the world that we have to visit."

We don't yet have a release date for Fast & Furious 11 (or Fast X Part Two, however, they style it) though.

Fast 10 trailer: Watch the Fast X trailer here!

As mentioned above, the first trailer for Fast X was released on February 10. If you missed it above, check it out below:

There's also expected to be a TV spot for Fast X at the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 12, but it's likely to be just a shortened version of the trailer.

But maybe there's another surprise reveal in store for fans...

Fast 10 cast: Who's returning for Fast X?

It wouldn't be a true finale to the series without most of the family back, and along with the filming confirmation came the expected cast list. Fast X will reunite the all-important Toretto family for the tenth film.

Obviously, Vin Diesel's Dom is back, joined by a lot of familiar faces, especially as Fast & Furious 9 passed without any casualties.

The family even grew with the surprise return of Sung Kang as Han, who will return alongside Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Tyrese Gibson as Roman, Ludacris as Tej, Jordana Brewster as Mia, Charlize Theron as the baddie Cipher and Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey.

Diesel revealed that it was actually his daughter who ensured the return of Mia who was originally missing from the script.

Related: Who could Fast & Furious 10 and 11 bring back to the series?

We imagine that'd be it in terms of the core cast, but we'd expect a lot of cameo roles and bit parts for characters across the entire series, including Lucas Black as Sean Boswell, Bow Wow as Twinkie, Jason Tobin as Earl Hu, and Shea Whigham as Agent Stasiak.

The fate of Kurt Russell's Mr Nobody was up in the air at the end of F9. But since he helped Han fake his own death, we wouldn't be surprised if he's still around to help Dom and his crew out.

Scott Eastwood has been confirmed to return for Fast X as Little Nobody, but is it to take Mr Nobody's role or is it confirmation that his boss will be back too?

Talking of Han's return, there's a theory that Mr Nobody might have faked Gisele's death too, so could we see a return for Gal Gadot in the two-part finale? After the ninth movie went to space, we're not ruling anything out.

Kang is certainly up for Gisele's return, as he responded to the theory by saying: "I think we need Gisele back… in every way. I think the fans want that. We need to make that happen somehow."

Whether it'll be in a cameo role or something more substantial, it's unlikely that the finale passes without an appearance from Brian O'Conner too. Perhaps it'll just be from archival footage of the late Paul Walker or some CGI trickery, but he'll definitely play a part.

Brewster has spoken of her desire to have Paul Walker's daughter Meadow make an appearance in the series before it comes to an end. Perhaps that could happen in Fast & Furious 10?

The credits scene in F9 also saw Jason Statham return to the main series as Deckard Shaw, so we'd be surprised if he didn't play a role in the two-part finale, alongside his mother Magdalene 'Queenie' Shaw as brilliantly played by Helen Mirren.

We've already had a first look at Mirren back in the Fast franchise, cosying up to Dom, of course.

While he started as a villain, John Cena's Jakob Toretto was on Dom's side by the end of the ninth movie, so we'd expect to see the long-lost Toretto brother back in the fold for the finale too.

There's been plenty of exciting new names announced for the cast, led by Aquaman's Jason Momoa playing the latest bad guy to go head-t0-head with Dom.

We don't know too much about Momoa's villain who's called Dante, but he has shared that he has purple and pink toenails, drives a lavender ride to match, and has a maniacal laugh. "I'm a peacock at the highest level and I'm having the time of my life," he teased.

Diesel revealed a new look at Momoa's villain in late January 2023, while the first trailer revealed that he has a connection to Fast Five's villain Reyes as he's his previously-unknown son.

The Suicide Squad's Daniela Melchior and Captain Marvel's Brie Larson are also a part of the tenth movie. Larson plays Tess, a rogue representative from the Agency, while Melchior is a street racer with a tie to Dom's past.

As for Larson, Diesel has been talking up her importance in the overall Fast & Furious saga. "You have no idea how timeless and amazing she will be in our mythology," he wrote on an Instagram post with a first-look image.

"Beyond her beauty, her intellect... her Oscar, haha, is this profound soul who will add something you might not have expected but yearned for."

Both Larson's and Melchior's characters are expected to have ties to Fast & Furious canon, with Larson's Tess reportedly the daughter of Mr Nobody and Melchior's character the sister of Elena, the mother of Dom's child Brian.

Reacher star Alan Ritchson will also be joining in on the fun as Aimes, the new head of the Agency who doesn't exactly have the same fondness for Dom as Mr Nobody did.

But perhaps most excitingly (and unexpectedly), Rita Moreno will star as Dom and Mia's grandmother, Abuelita Toretto. Yes, that is really happening.

Fast 10 plot: What can we expect from Fast X?

With the first trailer, we got the official synopsis for Fast X – and it's a lengthy one fitting of its position as the beginning of the end for the series.

"Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path," it reads.

"Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they've ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who's fuelled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.

"In 2011's Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes' son, Dante, witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.

"Dante's plot will scatter Dom's family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface.

"But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son is the ultimate target of Dante's vengeance."

Everything is wrapped up fairly neatly by the end of Fast & Furious 9, but it still left some mysteries for the new movie to explore, such as whether Mr Nobody is still alive and what Jakob will do next.

The one big tease for the next movie is the credits sequence that sees Han visit Shaw who, understandably, was surprised to see him. Since Shaw inadvertently helped Han keep Project Aries safe, will he let bygones be bygones? Or could Han's surprise return lead Shaw to become a villain again?

"I think there's still some questions that are unanswered. It's a taste of where Han can go and where Deckard Shaw can go, because everybody loves Jason Statham. We're honoured to have him in our universe, so why not?" Kang told Digital Spy.

Nathalie Emmanuel has teased that the stakes this time around are "so much higher and so much more serious", adding: "Just the general stakes are higher on a more personal level in this one."

As mentioned before, could we see more unexpected returns from the dead, such as Dom's father, or Gal Gadot's Gisele? You can't rule anything out in this universe, although you can probably rule out it being a laid-back finale where they just sit around and chill.

And maybe we'll end up seeing Queenie kiss Dom, at least if Helen Mirren has anything to do with it: "Oh my God, of course I would! But only if he talks to me before and after, because it's the voice that I really get off on, quite honestly."

Fast X is out in cinemas on May 19.
