Stephen King's The Boogeyman is heading to the big screen later this year, and the first trailer is here to put the heebie-jeebies in you.

In the footage, we see Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher, Obi-Wan Kenobi's Vivien Lyra Blair and The Suicide Squad's David Dastmalchian. There's a corridor full of candles, black tendrils all over the walls, and something lurking in the dark...

The trailer doesn't give too much away (which is what you want from a horror film), but there is a plot synopsis that gives us a bit of context as to who the characters are and what's going on.

It reads: "High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain.

"When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims."

It's not an exact adaptation of King's 1973 short story, but it's all about the scares anyway, and judging from the trailer, the final film should have plenty of those in store.

Meanwhile, Yellowjackets is due to return for its second season in March, recently dropping a trailer that features new cast member Elijah Wood in action.

Christina Ricci has been hyping up the season lately, teasing: "I can't really get too much into detail, but I will say the first couple scripts had the entire cast gasping. So it's even wilder."

Boogeyman is set for a US cinematic release on June 2. A UK release date has not been announced just yet.
