Marvel's Avengers development is shutting down this year

If you want to buy it digitally, do it before it's delisted.

Marvel's Avengers is officially coming to an end.

The game, from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, released in 2020 to controversy over how the design was set up to encourage people to spend real-life money on microtransactions to unlock things from new costumes to finishing moves and emotes.

Now it has been announced that the game will receive its final major update in March, before being delisted from digital storefronts in September.

The March 3 update will see all items available for purchase become free for all players, and we don't mean free to purchase using currency earned by doing things in game, we mean instantly able to use for everyone.

"We wanted to show all our players how much we've appreciated their support over the past few years. Gifting the full library of marketplace content is a way to thank our community by letting them experience the breadth of content in Marvel's Avengers," the game's official blog post reads.

Those who have spent real-world money will find their credit balance converted into things like units, upgrade modules and DNA keys, which are used to upgrade characters and equipment for better stats.

No balance patches or new content will be released following this update, but there will still be technical support available should you run into bugs or glitches running until September 30. That's when support ends and the game gets pulled from storefronts.

You can still purchase a physical copy of the game, or re-download a digital copy if already purchased, after this date. Online multiplayer will still be accessible for the foreseeable future, while events like the Red Room Takeover will run in rotation every two weeks.

Unfortunately for Xbox and PC players, Spider-Man will remain a PlayStation exclusive.
