The first trailer for White Lotus actor Jake Lacey and Captain Marvel star Mckenna Grace's new true crime show A Friend of the Family has been unveiled.
Based on Netflix's hit documentary Abducted in Plain Sight, the series is inspired by the real-life story of the Broberg family, whose daughter Jan Broberg was kidnapped multiple times over a few years by a deranged, obsessed family friend.
Lacey plays abductor Robert Berchtold, while Grace stars as Jan. The series also stars Oscar winner Anna Paquin and Colin Hanks as Jan's mum and dad plus Lio Tipton as Jan's sister – and you can check out the disturbing trailer for yourself above.

The real-life Jan, who served as an executive producer on the series, told TV Insider in a statement that the episodes tells the story of her "loving, trusting, educated family" whose lives were shattered by her abductor.
"From age 12 to 16 I was sexually assaulted and severely brainwashed by this man who I trusted. This story will make you talk, shout, cry – and it will make you angry. Good," she added.
Showrunner Nick Antosca also spoke out about the harrowing story, saying in a statement: "It’s easy to judge the Broberg family’s story from the outside. Sometimes when people first hear it, they get defensive: How could these parents have let this happen? I’m not like them. That’s understandable. It’s a surreal story."

He added that he hoped to learn about the family's "story from the outside" and "wanted to understand from the inside to know what their lives felt like, to live in each family member’s experience, to see how they were caught in such a bizarre web, and help audiences understand too" after hearing about the disturbing situation.
He goes on to differentiate the show from others within its genre.
"The series exists outside the typical categories of genre," he added. "It’s a thriller built around obsessive relationships, a family drama, and a nightmarish coming-of-age story. This is a horror story that’s also about survival."
A Friend of the Family premieres October 6 on Peacock in the US.
