Marvel fans will bid farewell to Dave Bautista's Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 this summer, but the actor hasn't ruled out the idea of returning to the comic book genre in another role.

"I'm open-minded to any role. I'm open-minded to any genre. I'm just open-minded about my career," he told Digital Spy while promoting his new film Knock at the Cabin.

"It depends on what the role is. It depends on what I'm working with. I just want to work with very talented people. It's really to find out how good I can be."

If the reviews for his performance in Knock at the Cabin are anything to go by, Bautista's career is only on the rise.

"I gauge my success on the people that I'm working with. I don't need an Academy Award. It doesn't mean anything to me," he continued.

"Working with people who have won Academy Awards means something to me, because that's the way I can gauge how far I've come since I started acting."

In any case, another comic book trilogy isn't out of the question for Bautista, but the role has to be worthwhile.

"But I'm open-minded to any role, and I would sign up for another trilogy. It just has to make sense. And it has to be a role that's worth it for me, because a trilogy – you know, I'm 54 now," he added.

"A trilogy is over the span of 10 years, I'm guessing [laughs]. So it has to be worth it. If it's the right role, of course I would take it."

Knock at the Cabin is out now in cinemas.
