Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Angela Bassett has made Marvel history after receiving an Oscar nomination for her role as Queen Ramonda.
Bassett, who has been nominated for a supporting actress Oscar, is the first MCU star to ever receive an acting nomination from the Academy. whilst the sequel itself is only the second Marvel movie to receive a Best Picture nomination.
It was actually its predecessor Black Panther which is the only MCU movie to have won any Oscars at all, for Costume Design, Production Design and Score.

Reacting to the news today, Bassett said in a statement that she was drawn to Queen Ramonda's strength and was thankful to be a nominee (via Good Morning America).
"This morning is a little extra special in the Bassett Vance household with news of my Oscar nomination," Bassett said. "What has drawn me to each of the women I've portrayed throughout my career is their strength, compassion, resilience, and power.
"Wakanda Forever's Queen Ramonda is a character that touched my spirit because she is a mother and a leader who must care for her grieving nation as much as she cares for her family in mourning."

Speaking of the role, Bassett said that it "reflects and acknowledges" what women do every day, while highlighting the talent "in front of and behind the camera".
"I'm thankful to the Academy for including me amongst a wonderful group of actresses," she said. "I look forward to March 12 as we cheer for and celebrate with one another."
With awards season well underway, Bassett has already bagged a Best Supporting Actress prize at the Critics' Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards for Black Panther 2, as well as receiving a Best Supporting Actress BAFTA nomination for her role.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now playing in cinemas worldwide and premieres on Disney+ on February 1. The first movie is also streaming on Disney+.
