Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors has opened up about how he created the character of Kang the Conqueror for the third Ant-Man entry — and Iron Man was a key inspiration.
Majors reprises his role as Kang after first appearing in the MCU in Loki. Now, in a new interview with Deadline, Majors has name-checked Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man as a major source of inspiration when it came to creating the character of Kang.
"He’s a conqueror, right? Look at Alexander the Great. Look at Genghis Khan. Julius Caesar. Start there. He’s part of an already-established universe," Majors said.

"Counterpoints, which is also important in creating character, is to figure out how does he encounter people. You’re smart, watch out how smart I am.
"You can look at Robert Downey’s Iron Man, that’s the superhero of superheroes, etc. In order to be the supervillains of supervillains, how do I counter-act that in the zeitgeist?"

The hype around Kang — the MCU's next big bad after Thanos — has only increased more and more as we approach Ant-Man 3's release date. MCU boss Kevin Feige recently added to that, teasing Kang's motives in connection to Scott Lang, Hank Pym, and company.
"Kang's a very powerful person, but when we meet him he’s in a position where he needs to get that power back," Feige teased.
"He has a ship and a device that would allow him to go anywhere, and anywhen he wants if he can get it online. If only he had access to genius scientists with Pym particles."
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to be released on February 17, 2023.
