Captain America: New World Order has added Space Jam: A New Legacy star Xosha Roquemore to its cast.

Deadline reports that Xosha is going to have a significant role in the film — described as one of the biggest of her career — though the exact character remains under wraps. Marvel Studios isn't commenting on her casting.

Xosha previously had a recurring role in The Mindy Project, and has more recently appeared in Black Monday, the First Wives Club TV show and Atlanta on the small screen.

Her film credits include a breakthrough role in Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, The Disaster Artist and she also played LeBron James' mother in flashback scenes in Space Jam: A New Legacy.

She joins an all-star cast in Captain America: New World Order that includes Anthony Mackie taking up the shield, alongside Harrison Ford taking over the role of Captain Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross.

Tim Blake Nelson returns as the villainous Leader from 2008's The Incredible Hulk, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly are back as well.

The Cloverfield Paradox director Julius Onah is behind the camera for New World Order, with a script from The Falcon and the Winter Solider's Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson.

The film has already caused some controversy by casting Shira Haas as the Israeli super-agent Sabra, sparking complaints that the film could whitewash the plight of the Palestinian people in Israel.

A spokesperson for Marvel subsequently told The New York Times: "While our characters and stories are inspired by the comics, they are always freshly imagined for the screen and today's audience, and the filmmakers are taking a new approach with the character Sabra who was first introduced in the comics over 40 years ago."

Captain America: New World Order is released in cinemas on May 3, 2024. You can catch up with pretty much all of the MCU to date on Disney+.
