The 2023 awards season is in full swing at the moment, with winners recently announced for the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards.
The big one it's all building up to is, of course, the Oscars – with industry pundits and fans alike looking at who's won what in various awards to try and predict who will bag glory at the main event.
Angela Bassett took home the Best Supporting Actress prize at the Critics' Choice Awards last night (January 15) for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a significant moment that has led the star to be tipped to repeat the feat at the Oscars by many including The Hollywood Reporter.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been pushing for Oscars success outside of the typical technical categories blockbusters usually go for, with the first Black Panther being the only MCU film to win any Oscars (for Costume Design, Production Design and Score).
If Bassett wins, that means that the sequel will be the second MCU film to win an Oscar, and the first one to nab the franchise an acting win.
Of course, she needs to make the nominations shortlist first, and the MCU hasn't actually ever had an acting category nomination.
Even if Bassett doesn't win, a nomination would still make history and be a step forward for cinema's biggest franchise.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released on Disney+ on February 1.
