Marvel boss Kevin Feige has explained the motivations behind Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's villain, Kang the Conqueror.

The trailer for Ant-Man 3 revealed the return of Jonathan Majors' Kang after he debuted in the MCU in the Disney+ series Loki. Now, he's set to become the MCU's next big bad with this movie outing.

In an interview with Empire, Feige provided a little more detail to Kang's motivations in the third Ant-Man movie.

"Kang's a very powerful person, but when we meet him he’s in a position where he needs to get that power back," Feige teased.

"He has a ship and a device that would allow him to go anywhere, and anywhen he wants if he can get it online. If only he had access to genius scientists with Pym particles."

The movie promises Kang to be one of the MCU's most powerful villains yet, if not the most powerful. However, he will not be the only villain featured in the movie as the cult classic Marvel Comics villain MODOK will also be involved.

Corey Stoll's Darren Cross, who was the villain of the first Ant-Man, will be appearing as the MCU's iteration of MODOK. In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in the trailer, Stoll can be seen as MODOK in his mechanised chair.

Quantumania will also lead into several upcoming major productions in the MCU including, at least, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Previously, director Peyton Reed discussed the impact the movie would have on the rest of the MCU.

"I think [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania] has a profound impact on the MCU," Reed said last November.

"Jeff Loveness, who wrote this movie, is writing The Kang Dynasty as well, so there’s been a lot of discussion about the impact that this appearance of Kang The Conqueror makes. There are big things in store."

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to be released on February 17, 2023.
