Batman is back... err, again! In their shake-up of the existing order of the DC universe, James Gunn and Peter Safran announced a slate of new titles. Those who were afraid that their new Batman project meant Robert Pattinson's brooding Bruce Wayne was no more for the world can rest easy.
While The Batman Part II is going ahead (and in fact has a confirmed release date), Gunn and Safran also announced another, different, version of the caped crusader. Few details have emerged about the upcoming projects, but we have some information about the new Batman.
Given it's still early in development, plenty is bound to change. But with that in mind, here's what we know so far about the other Batman being introduced into the Worlds of DC, or the DC Universe as it's now being called (again) in the upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold.
The Brave and the Bold potential release date: When is the new Batman movie out?
We have no idea! In their announcement, neither Gunn nor Safran revealed release or production dates for The Brave and the Bold.
We imagine that there's going to be some space between it and Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II though, which is out in October 2025.
The Brave and the Bold plot: What will The Brave and the Bold be about?
This is the only area where we actually have some information. Gunn revealed in a video posted to Twitter that The Brave and the Bold will introduce his favourite iteration of Robin, Damian Wayne. In the announcement, he said the character is "a little son of a bitch".
The film will also serve as the "introduction of the DCU Batman", which we presume means a very different Batman to the one Pattinson has played. The movie is also said to be taking its inspiration from the Grant Morrison run of Batman comics in which Batman discovered a son he never knew existed.
The problem? His son happens to be a murderous tween raised by assassins. "It's a very strange father-and-son story," he added.
The Brave and the Bold will also be separate to the current Batman's story, with Reeves' (and Todd Phillips' Joker and Joker: Folie à Deux taking place in something they're calling DC Elseworlds.)
The Brave and the Bold cast: Who will play Batman?
We have absolutely no information as to who will don the cape, but we can guess it won't be Ben Affleck. This might come as a surprise, given the star supposedly has a cameo in the upcoming Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Gunn and Safran seem to be cleaning house, and have already confirmed Henry Cavill won't return as Superman, so it's highly unlikely they'd ask Affleck to return.
The Brave and the Bold trailer: When can we expect The Brave and the Bold footage?
Much like the Batman movie's release date, we don't know. When a production date is eventually revealed, we can speculate as to when a trailer might drop but for now, it's all a long way away.
Keep your eyes on this page for updates, though, on all things The Brave and the Bold.
