Star Trek: Discovery and The Suicide Squad stars join new Transformers movie

Michelle Yeoh and Pete Davidson have boarded the cast of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Star Trek: Discovery star Michelle Yeoh and The Suicide Squad’s Pete Davidson have joined the cast for the latest film in the Transformers franchise.

As reported by Deadline, the pair will star in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the seventh live-action entry in the series.

Yeoh, who plays Philippa Georgiou in Paramount+’s Discovery, will voice Airazor, a Maximal who transforms into a peregrine falcon. Davidson, who starred in the semi-autobiographical The King of Staten Island, will voice an Autobot named Mirage.

Director Steven Caple Jr, best known for Creed II, announced the castings on Instagram, posting a video with the caption: “Pete Davidson in disguise. @transformersmovie cast is amazing, man. Sneak peek of Pete voicing Mirage & @michelleyeoh_official blessing us as the voice of Air Razor #rotb 2023.”

Rise of the Beasts, the sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee, will take place in the 1990s, following a “a pair of archaeologists from Brooklyn [who] come into an ancient conflict through a globe-trotting adventure”.

It will introduce three new tribes of robots (Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons), who will join the existing battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Other cast members include Hamilton and In The Heights star Anthony Ramos, Judas and the Black Messiah’s Dominique Fishback, and Dexter’s Luna Lauren Vélez.

Yeoh, who is tipped for awards success with Everything Everywhere All at Once, had a recurring role on Discovery between 2017 and 2020. An untitled spin-off series focusing on her character’s exploits in Starfleet’s Section 31 division was greenlit in 2019.

Davidson, who can currently be seen in Peacock’s Meet Cute, played Blackguard in 2021’s rebooted The Suicide Squad. The former Saturday Night Live star has dipped his toes in the horror genre lately, with the comedian starring in Bodies Bodies Bodies and the upcoming The Home.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be released in cinemas on June 9, 2023.
