The time has finally come for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to arrive in cinemas this week and before it was released, we already knew it was going to be an epic.
It was reported back in September 2022 that the eagerly-awaited MCU sequel would clock in at 161 minutes, making it one of the longest Marvel movies to date behind only Avengers: Endgame's 181-minute runtime.
Of course, it's not the only superhero epic of 2022 as The Batman caused a stir earlier this year with its 176-minute runtime. But neither of these movies is actually the longest superhero movie of all time, so we decided to investigate.
A couple of notes before we start: all runtimes are taken from the BBFC's official record of each movie's theatrical release as runtimes can vary when it comes to home entertainment due to different frame rates.
And we haven't included any directors' cuts with the exception of Zack Snyder's Justice League, given that the 2021 movie was vastly different to its 2017 predecessor – to the extent of basically being a new movie altogether.
(If you disagree with that, just take it out and bump everything else up one slot.)
