Superman cameo set to be cut from The Flash following Henry Cavill exit

A planned Superman cameo in The Flash movie is set to be cut following Henry Cavill’s exit from the role.

The actor surprisingly announced last week that he wouldn’t be returning as the Krypton hero, with an overhaul at DC Studios leading to a change in content.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill had filmed a scene for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, which is due to be released in June 2023, but this has now been removed in addition to a Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) cameo.

The developments have come since James Gunn’s appointment as co-CEO of DC Studios, with the director reportedly wanting to recast Clark Kent with a younger actor, as well as making several changes across the whole franchise.

Speaking about his work with fellow chief Peter Safran, Gunn said: “We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the story & in the service of the DC characters we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives.”

Cavill, who recently left Netflix’s The Witcher, appeared as Superman as recently as October when appearing in a mid-credits scene in Black Adam, but was 'mournful' over the news that he’d hang up the cape.

“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them, and all involved with the new universe, the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes,” he said in a statement.

“We can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember… Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there… It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”

Cavill has since secured another role in a major franchise, joining Amazon Prime Video’s Warhammer project.
