Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Antony Cotton has given his thoughts on the future of his character Sean Tully, saying he would love to see him get married one day.

When asked if he'd like a 'happily ever after' moment for his character who has previously been unlucky in love Antony replied: "Without a doubt it would be fantastic to see a big gay wedding on the street and yes, it would be a lovely storyline for Sean with mishaps along the way, things getting cancelled and people not turning up, but with a lovely happy day at the end."

He added: "But there is also a flip side which is once you are settled that is when people can stop writing stories for the character."

"I guess it depends on what the story is, but I would definitely like there to be a wedding one day in the future that involves Sean."

Sean is currently in a relationship Laurence Reeves, however it doesn't seem likely that there will be wedding bells for the pair soon. Especially with Laurence's dark past coming to light, which could leave Sean's life in danger in upcoming episodes.

Weddings aside, Antony also touched on his character's relationship with his son Dylan Wilson, saying he is enjoying playing Sean as a father.

"It is a very different dynamic and a different way of working when you have a younger person on set. That relationship is the most fulfilling relationship Sean will ever have, he levels him in the way that kids do," he said.

"I have loved having him back and it is exciting to think about their relationship moving forward and the storylines they could have, Sean having to negotiate Dylan growing up and having his own relationships."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
