Casualty has given us a first look at ex-EastEnders star Nigel Harman’s debut in a brand new trailer.

Harman, known for playing Dennis Rickman on the Albert Square soap, will be joining Casualty as Max Christie, the new acting clinical lead.

In the trailer, which was posted to the show’s social media accounts, Max introduces himself, but it doesn't take long for him to make his mark, yelling at Dylan Keogh: “This place was a mess when I took over. It needs someone capable and efficient and that sure as hell isn’t you!”

We also get to see a glimpse of Robyn proposing to Paul and a kiss between Iain and Faith.

Viewers will eventually learn about Max's long history with Dylan which dates back to medical school, but he can't afford to dwell on the reunion when a dramatic case comes up.

Speaking about joining the soap, Harman said in a statement: “I'm honoured and grateful to be joining the cast of Casualty. Many pals have donned the famous scrubs over the years and had a ball, so for me it was an easy decision.

"With Max the viewers can expect a character who leads with his heart and not always his head. Never afraid to get in a scrape or two, yet loyal to the end even if it means putting himself in danger."

BBC Studios executive producer Jon Sen said of the casting: "We are thrilled to be welcoming Nigel to the cast of Casualty.

"We were over the moon when he agreed to play the role and from what we've seen so far, Nigel's creating an iconic character who is set to stir things up within the Emergency Department. We can't wait for the audience to meet Max.”

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
