PlayStation Plus Essential's free games for Febuary 2023 have been announced.
Essential is the standard tier of three Plus subscriptions, the one that lets you play games online and lets you add three or more full games every month to your library for free, and you'll get to access them for as long as you're subscribed, even if you let your sub drop for a bit then pick it up again.
From this Tuesday, February 7, subscribers will be able to claim Evil Dead: The Game, OlliOlli World, Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Mafia: Definitive Edition. With the exception of the latter, all of these games have native PS5 and PS4 versions, but Mafia is still playable on both systems.
OlliOlliWorld actually made Digital Spy's list of Best Games of 2022, where "a cool-as-hell and addictive skateboarding adventure" with unique challenges will hook you for weeks. Just don't blame us when your thumbs get sore.
Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer game in which you can play as either the demons or the heroes from the Sam Raimi horror franchise, including the films and TV series. It's not just competitive either, there's a co-op option and a single-player mode to tackle.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is technically an expansion to the base free-to-play sci-fi shooter, but it's so packed with content we can't see anyone complaining, especially when it's at no extra cost to Plus members. If you get hooked and want even more, newest expansion Lightfall is conveniently out on February 28.
Mafia: Definitive Edition not only takes you back to the 1930s for some open-world gangster fun, but also back to 2002, as this is a full-blown remake of an early Noughties title using the engine from the modern third entry. Critics gave this solid reviews at launch, while post-release updates added an extra racing mode and the option to play the game in black and white for that film noir feel.
The cheapest way to get a PS Plus subscription is to buy PS Store credit online, then use it to buy yourself a subscription.
PlayStation also announced that the PS Plus Collection will be ending on May 9. Running since the launch of PS5, this initiative allows subscribers to claim 19 big name PS4 titles from the PS Store on the new console (you can't use your phone, web browser or PS4, sadly).
You've got over three months to claim these games if you haven't already/don't have a PS5 yet. Once added to your account, they function like Essential games in that you can play them as long as you're currently subscribed.
The games are: Batman: Arkham Knight, Battlefield 1, Bloodborne, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, Fallout 4, Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition, God of War, inFamous Second Son, Monster Hunter World, Mortal Kombat X, Ratchet and Clank, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Until Dawn.
