Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud fame has discussed how her training went ahead of the airing of Strictly Come Dancing's Christmas Special.

Swapping her usual pop dance moves for the waltz, the singer admitted on The One Show on December 20 that training was tougher than expected.

When talking about her pro partner, Giovanni Pernice, she shared "Gio is a great teacher. He's a perfectionist, as am I.

"I don't necessarily like the learning process because I lose concentration and Gio is very 'again, again, again'.

"But I was grateful because when I finally got to do the waltz I was prepared and I knew that I'd put the training in, I knew that I'd followed directions as much as I could."

Nicola opted for honesty when describing her reaction to his tough training tactics, saying: "And as much as during the rehearsal process I might have wanted to strangle him, I was glad that I left the ballroom thinking 'Okay, I think I did a good job at the waltz'."

Elsewhere in the interview, she hinted at a potential desire to do a full season of Strictly... fingers crossed!

"People keep saying to me 'Do you think you'll do the full season?,' and I honestly had such an amazing time it's definitely something to think about," the star said.

She also spoke of the hard work all of the contestants and crew are putting in, saying that everyone was "exhausted" in order to put the show together.

"Those guys are working so hard, I mean the whole show is magical. You walk in and it's just like Strictly grotto," she explained.

The One Show also touched on how Nicola's fellow Girls Aloud members gathered in the ballroom to support her, with the star explaining how they'd managed to see more of each other this year thanks to their charity efforts in memory of Sarah Harding.

Strictly Come Dancing's Christmas Special will air on December 25 at 5.10pm. Strictly Come Dancing and Strictly: It Takes Two also stream on BBC iPlayer.
