Spartacus is getting a sequel series from creator Steven S DeKnight.
Wrapping up 10 years ago after three seasons marred by tragedy – original lead Andy Whitfield passed away after just one season and prequel Gods of the Arena – this epic gladiatorial drama still has plenty in the tank, with DeKnight back as showrunner and executive producer (via Deadline).
In the wake of Spartacus and his rebel army's defeat, the next chapter in this brutal story is set to explore uncharted territory and new journeys for the Spartacus characters, with treachery and death on the menu once again under the shadow of Rome.

"It's such an incredible honour to be invited to return to the world of Spartacus and to be met with unbridled creative support from my colleagues at Starz and Lionsgate," said DeKnight in a statement.
"Together we are crafting something truly unique and unusual for the next chapter in this epic story."
Starz's president of original programming Kathryn Busby had this to add: "It has been over a decade since Spartacus delighted international audiences and we are thrilled to reimagine and expand this gripping, action-packed drama for our viewers today.
"Spartacus has deeply invested fans who are eager for its return, and we look forward to working with Steven on this exciting next chapter."

Meanwhile, just a couple of weeks ago, Starz announced that its long-running historical drama Outlander would be coming to an end with season 8 in 2024.
But fans shouldn't fret, because a spin-off subtitled Blood of My Blood is on the horizon.
This prequel will focus on an unlikely love story – that of Jamie Fraser's parents Ellen and Brian, à la The Winchesters.
